Sandblasting in Grand Rapids & West Michigan

What's typical in West Michigan

Manufacturing and finishing

Greater Grand Rapids is home to major office-furniture makers (Steelcase in Grand Rapids, MillerKnoll in Zeeland, and Haworth in Holland) plus a large network of metal fabricators and suppliers. That supports industrial blasting and coating work: parts prep before powder coating, fixtures, racks, and structural steel. Many requests come from small fabricators who need overflow blasting.

Lakeshore boats

From Grand Haven to Holland, Saugatuck, and Muskegon, boat owners ask about stripping bottom paint and blistered gelcoat. Soda and wet methods are popular because they remove paint without aggressively cutting fiberglass. Antifouling bottom paints typically contain copper biocides, so debris containment and marina disposal rules matter. Older layers may contain other metals.

Older Grand Rapids neighborhoods

Heritage Hill and other historic areas have many older homes. Grand Rapids' Historic Preservation Commission publishes guidelines for exterior work in local districts (City of Grand Rapids Historic Preservation Guidelines). Under Michigan law, exterior work in a local historic district generally requires approval before it begins. Pre-1978 paint brings EPA RRP rules into play.

Trailers and equipment

Kent and Ottawa counties have a lot of agricultural and landscaping equipment, along with the trailers that haul it. Spring rust and salt cleanup is a common request.
